Subnautica 2 Crafting Guide — What to Build First

Progression order for Early Access. Build these first, unlock everything else second.

Updated for Early Access build — May 2026. Verified recipes only.

Subnautica 2 Crafting Stations

Four stations, unlocked progressively. The Fabricator is always available — everything else requires crafting or scanning first.

Fabricator From Start ⭐ Primary
Purpose

Tools, equipment, food, electronics, and basic materials. Your most-used station throughout the entire game.

How to Access

Available immediately inside your Lifepod from the start of the game.

Processor Craftable
Purpose

Refines raw ores into ingots. Produces Strong Acid and Biofuel. Required for almost all mid-game crafting.

How to Build

Place inside a habitat. Requires:

2× Titanium 1× Mild Acid 1× Copper Wire
Key Outputs

Titanium Ingot, Plasteel Ingot, Strong Acid

Habitat Builder Craft at Fabricator
Purpose

Places base modules in the world — walls, rooms, airlocks, and power sources. Required before you can build any base at all.

Recipe
2× Titanium 1× Glass 1× Basic Battery 1× Copper Wire
Modification Station Blueprint Required
Purpose

Vehicle upgrades and suit modules. Required for Tadpole depth upgrades and advanced suit modifications.

How to Get

Scan the blueprint in the world, then build inside a habitat at the Habitat Builder.

Used For

Tadpole depth upgrades, suit modules

💡 Tip

Pin recipes before diving. Open the Fabricator, hover any recipe and pin it to your HUD — required materials show on-screen while you explore.

What to Craft First — Priority Order

First-hour checklist. Complete these in order before attempting mid-game areas.

Basic Battery
2× Copper 1× Acidic Raion Pouch

Required for Scanner, Flashlight, and powering the Welcome Center Biolab. Craft this before anything else — it gates multiple first-hour items.

Scanner
2× Titanium 2× Quartz 1× Basic Battery

Required to unlock almost every other blueprint. Build this second, immediately after the Basic Battery. Nothing else unlocks without it.

Survival Multitool
3× Titanium

Required to harvest plant-based resources. Without it you cannot gather Fibrous Pulp, Lucifer Rotsac, or most organics — which means no Fiber, Rubber, or Mild Acid.

Habitat Builder
2× Titanium 1× Glass 1× Basic Battery 1× Copper Wire

Required to build any base. Place a small base near your Lifepod before exploring far — you need it to build the Processor later.

Standard Air Tank
2× Titanium 1× Rubber 2× Silver

First major dive upgrade. Significantly extends oxygen, enabling access to deeper zones that are out of reach with the default tank.

Basic Fins
2× Rubber 2× Fiber

Faster swimming means more ground covered per oxygen bar. Cheap to craft and the time savings compound over every dive.

Flashlight
2× Titanium 1× Quartz 1× Basic Battery

Dark zones below 100m are impassable without it. Required to access caves and deep biomes where Silver, Gold, and Lithium are found.

💡 Tip

Fiber Mesh, Rubber, and Glass are the bottleneck materials for early progression. Stock extras before attempting mid-game equipment upgrades.

Air tanks upgrade in a chain — Standard → High Capacity → Ultra High Capacity. Don't scrap old tanks. Each upgrade consumes the previous version as an ingredient.

Where to Find Key Resources

Quick reference for the materials needed in the first and second tier of crafting progression.

Resource Where to Find It
Titanium Rock outcroppings near the Lifepod. Most common resource in the game — found in all shallow biomes.
Copper Inside underwater caves and on cave walls, yellow tint. Common in shallow cave systems.
Quartz Sandy seafloor areas. Clear crystalline formations, easy to spot in open water.
Silver Mid-depth rock formations. Gray metallic nodes, requires diving past 80–120m.
Gold Deeper zones. Rare rock nodes, found below 150m. Check hydrothermal areas.
Lithium Deep biome rock formations. Required for Plasteel Ingot — farm once you have the Standard Air Tank.
Lead Mid-depth sediment layers. Often found alongside Silver deposits.
Fibrous Pulp Ocean plant life. Requires the Survival Multitool to harvest. Found in shallow reef areas.
Lucifer Rotsac Organic creature drop found on seafloor fauna. Harvest with the Survival Multitool.
Acidic Raion PouchOrange egg sacs near cave entrances. Visible without a tool — pick up on approach.
Metal Salvage Wreckage and debris fields. Yields Salvaged Titanium when processed at the Fabricator.

Frequently Asked Questions — Subnautica 2 Crafting

What should I craft first in Subnautica 2?

Build a Basic Battery first (2× Copper + 1× Acidic Raion Pouch), then immediately use it to craft the Scanner (2× Titanium + 2× Quartz + 1× Basic Battery). The Scanner unlocks almost every other blueprint in the game and is the single most important item in the first hour.

How do I unlock the Fabricator in Subnautica 2?

The Fabricator is available from the very start of the game inside your Lifepod. You do not need to craft or unlock it — it is your default crafting station and is accessible immediately after the opening sequence.

What is the Processor used for in Subnautica 2?

The Processor refines raw ores into crafting ingots (Titanium Ingot, Copper Ingot, Silver Ingot, etc.) and is the only station that can produce Strong Acid and Biofuel Blocks. It must be built inside a habitat using 2× Titanium, 1× Mild Acid, and 1× Copper Wire. Almost all mid-game and late-game crafting depends on Processor outputs.

How do I get Titanium in Subnautica 2?

Titanium is found in rock outcroppings near your Lifepod — it is the most common resource in the game and appears throughout all shallow biomes. You can also process Metal Salvage at the Fabricator to yield Salvaged Titanium. Rock outcroppings respawn over time.

What crafting stations are in Subnautica 2?

There are four crafting stations in Early Access: the Fabricator (Lifepod, available from start), the Processor (built in a habitat, refines ores), the Habitat Builder (crafted at the Fabricator, places base modules), and the Modification Station (built in a habitat after scanning a blueprint, handles vehicle and suit upgrades).
