Frequently Asked Questions — Subnautica 2 Biomods

How many biomods can you equip in Subnautica 2?

In the current Early Access build you can equip one active biomod and one passive biomod simultaneously — two total. Update 1.1 is confirmed to expand the number of passive slots, enabling multi-passive loadouts like the ones shown in the Future Planning section above.

How do I unlock the Bioscanner in Subnautica 2?

Progress the main story until the NOA Blackbox signal appears on your HUD. Travel to the Cicada Wreck in the EVA Prep area and scan the degraded Bioscanner at the bottom of the wreck. Then craft it at a Modification Station. The Bioscanner is required to unlock most non-default biomods — see the loadout builder above for which creature you need to scan for each mod.

What is the best biomod combination in Subnautica 2?

Dash (active) + Camouflage (passive) is the strongest general survival loadout in Early Access — Camouflage hides you from Leviathans while still, Dash exits the situation when you need to move. For exploration, Sonic Echo + Oxygen Control is optimal. For resource farming, Sonic Echo + Dermal Garden maximises productive time per dive.

What does Camouflage do in Subnautica 2?

Camouflage makes you completely invisible to predators — including Leviathans — while you are completely stationary. The moment you move, the effect breaks. It is unlocked by scanning a Bullethead with the Bioscanner and is rated S-tier because being still while invisible completely fools the aggro system of every predator in the current build.

Will more biomod slots be added?

Yes. The official Subnautica 2 roadmap confirms Update 1.1 will expand passive biomod slots, allowing multi-passive loadouts. The Future Planning section above shows the three recommended builds — Ultimate Explorer, Full Survival, and Deep Raider — to aim for when that update drops.
